Kids’ Gut-friendly Morning Smoothie
Smoothies make a great breakfast for kids because they’re tasty, easy to drink, and packed with fruits, fiber, and nutrients to start the day strong.
Packed full with gut-friendly ingredients like bananas, oats and chia seeds, and flavored with delicious blueberries (or any berries would work), this smoothie provides hydration and slow-release fuel to help your little ones start the day right.
Oats are wonderful for your little ones’ gut! Thanks to their high beta-glucan content (a type of soluble fibre), they help to regulate bowel movements but also act as a prebiotic, feeding beneficial bacteria that support a healthy gut microbiome. Whilst helping to keep them feeling fuller for longer, oats also help to support normal functioning of the digestive system.
Bananas are little gut-friendly powerhouses! The greener looking bananas are considered as prebiotics as they are higher in resistant starch which helps to feed the good bacteria in the gut. The more ripe bananas are higher in pectin which helps to support digestion, making any banana a great addition to the diet! Chia seeds are amazing for your gut! Their fibre keeps digestion moving smoothly, feeds the good bacteria in the gut, and helps reduce inflammation. Just be sure to soak them or mix them with liquid for the best benefit – so perfect for adding to smoothies!
Blueberries are more than just a tasty snack – they’re gut friendly, too! Their fibre helps to feed the good bacteria in the gut, while their polyphenols (the compounds that give may plants, including blueberries, their colour) give those bacteria extra fuel to thrive.
Ingredients
- Milk (or plant-based milk alternative)
- Banana
- Oats
- Chia seeds
- Blueberries (or raspberries or strawberries)

Instructions
Add all ingredients to blender, and blend until smooth.
Stir in the sachet of Alflorex® Children and serve.
