The Gut Truth: Cutting through gut health hype
There are 50 billion search results for ‘gut health’ online. And most of them are misleading. Gut health is everywhere these days - on social media, health blogs, and even TV ads. Green juices, fasting, activated charcoal, bone broth, and intolerance tests all claim to improve digestive wellness. But with so many new trends popping up each week, how can you separate fact from fiction? In an age where misinformation spreads quickly, it’s harder than ever to know what’s truly good for your gut.
To help cut through the noise, we’ve teamed up with The Gut Stuff, a fibre-focused brand founded by gut health enthusiasts and sisters: Lisa & Alana MacFarlane. Together, we've created a mini-series aimed at uncovering the truth behind what actually benefits your gut. Featuring Alana alongside three guests with expertise spanning different areas within gut health, we’ll tackle popular myths, learn what you should ‘snack, marry, and avoid’, and get insight into a day in the life of a gut expert.
Episode 1: Jordan Howarth
In our first episode, we’re joined by Jordan Howarth, a Gastrointestinal Physiologist who specialises in uncovering the root causes of digestive issues. Here, he’ll shed light on the truth about parasites, misinformation about raw milk and teach us how to enter that all important ‘rest and digest’ state. And as for food? He’ll tell us why we should all be eating a kiwi before bed, why a fart walk is his ‘non-negotiable’, and list off the ‘fermented five’ we could be adding to our diets. According to Jordan, probiotics are like dogs… but you’ll need to watch to find out why!
Episode 2: Dr Rabia
Next, we have the multi-talented Dr Rabia: consultant Neurogastroenterologist, CBT practitioner, gut-directed hypnotherapist and yoga teacher. Covering many angles of gut health, we discover why the gut doesn’t exist in isolation, discuss the over-prevalence of IBS in western societies, and learn some of the tools she empowers people with in-clinic. From food intolerance tests to Low FODMAP diets, not all is as it seems in the world of gut health. Watch on to find out why she’d avoid charcoal cleanses and uncover one daily ritual she’d stand by above all others…
Episode 3: David Zilber LAUNCHING FRIDAY 1st MAY
Finally, we’ll chat with David Zilber, a renowned chef and food scientist. Although he entered the world of food science from a purely gastronomic standpoint, he now considers food as medicine and believes that microorganisms are the lynchpin of human life. In this episode, he debunks the belief that all microbes cause disease, the notion that we all need to ‘heal our gut’ and explains why home fermentation isn’t as daunting as it sounds. Later in the episode he builds out his perfect gut-supporting today (featuring controversial coffee kombucha!), lists his favourite grains for gut health, and tells us why microbes love to swim.
Separating gut health fact from fiction
If you've ever felt overwhelmed, misled, or just completely confused by gut health advice, this series is for you. The Gut Truth cuts through the noise with real experts and real science. Gut health is often misunderstood and overcomplicated. Despite its rise in popularity, there’s still a lot of misinformation floating around. From miracle cleanses to quick-fix diets, it’s easy to fall for trends that promise instant results. The truth is, gut health is complex and requires a thoughtful, evidence-based approach over time, not the latest fad.
This series will offer a clear, scientifically-backed view of how to nurture your gut, from experts who have seen the first-hand impact on patients and consumers. Our guests Jordan Howarth, Dr. Rabia and David Zilber will provide insights and practical advice you can actually use. Instead of jumping on every new trend, we’ll help you focus on what works best for your body.
By the end of the series, you’ll have a better understanding of how to care for your gut and make decisions based on science rather than hearsay. No more chasing after fads. If you’ve been overwhelmed by the constant stream of gut health advice, this series is your chance to get the real truth about your gut.
